2.80 The second update of the Blender 2.80 milestone release is here! With again over a thousand fixes and several important updates that were planned for the 2.8 series. In this release you will find UDIM and USD support, MantaFlow fluids and smoke simulation, AI denoising, Grease Pencil improvements, and much more! Blender Artists is an online creative forum that is dedicated to the growth and education of the 3D software Blender. Hi I am going to buy a laptop for video/photo editing and Blender. I would prefer a macbook pro 16, but from my understanding macbooks are not that good for Blender.

System Information
Operating system: MacBook Air - 1.8 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 - Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB - macOS Catalina - version 10.15 - using an ordinary mouse.
Graphics card: ???

Blender Version
Broken (???): 2.80
Worked: ???

Short description of error
I have only begun to use Blender 2.80 for one day and it has already crashed my Mac once, and froze both my computer and Blender itself on two separate occasions, forcing me to turn my Mac on and off.

Tutorial

My Mac crashed (shut itself down) when it was put on stand-by mode (MacBook closed) for an hour, with Blender still turned on - I assume this happened because of Blender.

It says it installed, but it does not show up in the blender add on list. (I double checked and it did copy the folder to the correct location for add ons, it's just not being recognized at all after that) I am on a Mac, blender 2.8, intel gpu. Blender for Mac. In Blender, your imagination is the limit. You'll create characters, objects, cars and so much more by combining objects.

When both my MacBook or Blender itself froze, it happened when I was learning how to sculpt for the first time (see below).

Blender - and not my MacBook - presumably froze because I accidentally gave a brush to much strength (10.000* instead of, for example, 1.000*) and used it for just one left-click.

Then my entire MacBook froze - without any sign that it was even loading - as I was sculpting, for no good reason. I was only just learning how to sculpt for the first time, so I probably wasn't very efficient or clean with my strokes, but not to a degree where crashing or freezing seemed called for.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
I don't know... I'm not sure if I did anything wrong (messy/inexperienced beginner) or if Blender 2.8 just isn't ready for Mac yet. I just hope that either someone can tell me what I did wrong, or that this issue can de detected and resolved in a future update.

Sincerely,
Lorenzo

The Blender developer community is being supported by the organizational powers of Blender Foundation and its spin-off Blender Institute. The people who work for the Foundation and Institute did a tremendous job to bring Blender is where is it nowadays.

Special thanks goes to Tangent Animation and Aleph Objects, who funded 4 additional developers to work full-time on Blender 2.8 during the crucial 2017 period. This enabled us to work on the viewport, Eevee, collections/layers, UI and tools redesign.

Thanks goes to everyone who contributed to the Code Quest, the massively successful 3 month workshop in Blender Institute during spring 2018.

And we thank everyone who joined the Development Fund in 2nd half of 2018 and 2019. This helped us to keep the core of Blender contributors together to work on 2.8.

And last but not least: special thanks to the blender.org community – the developers, documenters, bug reporters and reviewers – it is thanks to them that we can start this wonderful new era of Blender 2.8x!
